Alternative Curriculum Day

As we have said before, at NLS we believe talents, abilities and gifts are as much developed and acquired as they might be inherited.

Our Alternative Curriculum Day #2 of this academic year offered some specific TAG events but there were many sessions aimed at a full range of students.

Attached are some of the photographs giving a flavour of the day in which: Y7 developed their SBS skills; Y8 sought to “Unlock Potential” and participate in an Arts Carousel; Y9 accessed the RE GCSE curriculum; Y10 undertook preparation work in readiness for Work Experience and future applications; Y11 experienced a range of Technology and Science activities to support their GCSE.

Meanwhile, the Sixth Form team arranged a range of services, including an Oxbridge Talk accessed by some of our upper school students.

BBC National Media Event

Some of our talented Media students recently worked under the expert eye of Mrs Miles to participate in the BBC National School Report event.

The BBC website can be found here:

The provisional NLS outcome can be found here:

When the videos are available, this will be updated.

Well done to the students and staff involved – as per last year, we will seek to organise a follow-up trip to the BBC studios in Coventry for these talented Media students.

Independent Learning Programme

Today saw an Independent Learning Programme event involving Y7-10 TAG students.

Working on a carousel of activities, students explored ways in which ICT, the Library and skills-sets with associated questions might support their Independent Learning – so they are not so reliant on a teacher to guide their development.

Contributions from staff and students were first-rate.

Attached are the PowerPoints driving the ICT and the Skills and associated questioning sessions.
